Today you could call me Nu-Trix the drum machine guy because I will talk about beat boxes and drum machines apps for the iPad. There are a lot of great drum machine apps for the iPad. Some are really bizarre other pure genius or even straight emulation of actual devices.

Just to be clear, it is my top 5 best drum machine for electronic music. Of you can use them for something else! And I’m not talking about samplers. I am really talking about only beat boxes where you do synthesize your own sound. So in a way, I’m still a synth guy.

If you are looking for the best iPad for electronic music check out my personal suggestions.

iElectribe from Korg

Of course one of the reason this one is a cool one is it actually mimics the original you know electric series of drum machine.

  • Really quick to use and fun to play
  • Good sounds
  • Enough control to actually adapt the sounds to your project
  • Motion record
  • Assignable effects to unique instrument
  • Ableton Link and Korg Sync.

DM one from Finger Lab

It’s probably one of my first beatbox I bought on the iPad. I liked it right away because I like the way it’s set up. I find the the interface itself really easy to use.

  • Great interface
  • Efficient sequence mode
  • Cool sounds (samples)
  • Big sounds library (from vintage electronic drum machines acoustic drum to weird stuff)
  • Mixer including automation
  • Motion record
  • Assignable effects to unique instrument
  • Export: Master mix or Separate tracks

DM2 from Pascal Douillard

You might think it’s the  second version DM but no. DM 2 is from one of the guys who worked on DM one. I think at one point they parted ways and he started DM 2. It is using pure date engine for the sound generator.

  • Great interface
  • Efficient sequence mode
  • Powerful sound synthesis
  • Powerful pattern sequencer
  • Big sounds library (from vintage electronic drum machines acoustic drum to weird stuff)
  • Motion record
  • Export functions

Elastic Drum from Gretch

I like Elastic drum because it makes me think of the sounds coming out of Native Instruments’s Reaktor. It is really powerful for electronic sounds.

  • Powerful sound synthesis
  • Powerful pattern sequencer
  • Synthesis random feature
  • Automation
  • Export functions

Sick beats from Rodrigo Yáñez

A curious little beast of a software. This one is dedicated to creating electronic sounds.

  • Powerful sound synthesis
  • Powerful pattern sequencer
  • Synthesis random feature
  • Synthesis recall
  • Automation
  • Export functions

And you, what are your favorite beatbox iPad apps? Write them in the comments.
